How to use bulk editor tools for data cleanup

Find duplicates, restore deleted items, and clean up data in bulk. Use the Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Notion editors to remove duplicates, recover lost events, and batch-delete outdated records

2sync includes built-in bulk editing tools for cleaning up data in Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Notion databases. These tools help you find and restore deleted items, remove duplicates, and perform batch deletions. Access them at app.2sync.com/tools/.

What bulk tools are available?

2sync provides three specialized editors, each tailored to a specific service:

ToolCapabilities
Google Calendar Bulk EditorFind deleted events, delete events in bulk, detect and remove duplicates
Google Contacts Bulk EditorFind deleted contacts, delete contacts in bulk, detect and merge duplicates
Notion Bulk EditorClean up any connected database, find archived pages, detect duplicates

All bulk tools are included in every 2sync plan at no extra cost.

How to use the Google Calendar bulk editor

Find and restore deleted events

Google Calendar keeps deleted events in a hidden trash for 30 days. The bulk editor surfaces these events so you can restore them.

  1. Open the Google Calendar Bulk Editor
  2. Select your calendar
  3. Click Find Deleted Events
  4. Review the list and select events to restore
  5. Click Restore Selected

Act quickly when restoring deleted events. Google's 30-day recovery window is firm. After that, events are permanently gone.

Delete multiple events at once

Remove large batches of events without clicking through each one individually.

  1. Select your calendar
  2. Use filters to narrow down events (by date range, title, etc.)
  3. Select events to delete
  4. Click Delete Selected

Bulk deletion is permanent for events past Google's recovery window. Double-check your selection before confirming.

Detect and remove duplicate events

The duplicate detector scans your calendar for events with matching titles, dates, and times.

  1. Click Find Duplicates
  2. Review detected duplicate groups
  3. Choose which copy to keep
  4. Remove the extras

How to use the Google Contacts bulk editor

Find and restore deleted contacts

Similar to calendar events, deleted contacts can be recovered within Google's retention period.

  1. Open the Google Contacts Bulk Editor
  2. Click Find Deleted Contacts
  3. Select contacts to restore
  4. Click Restore Selected

Delete multiple contacts at once

Clean up your address book by removing outdated or irrelevant contacts in bulk.

  1. Use filters to find contacts (by name, email domain, label, etc.)
  2. Select contacts to delete
  3. Click Delete Selected

Detect and merge duplicate contacts

The tool identifies contacts with matching names or email addresses and lets you merge them.

  1. Click Find Duplicates
  2. Review duplicate groups
  3. Choose the primary contact for each group
  4. Merge to combine information into one record

Merging contacts combines data from all duplicates into the primary contact. Review the merged result to ensure no information is lost.

How to use the Notion bulk editor

Clean up any Notion database

The Notion Bulk Editor works with any database connected to 2sync. Use it to manage pages in bulk without opening each one individually.

Find and restore archived pages

Notion archives pages rather than deleting them. The bulk editor helps you find and restore archived pages.

  1. Select a connected database
  2. Click Find Archived Pages
  3. Review and select pages to restore
  4. Click Restore Selected

Detect duplicates across your database

Find pages with matching titles or property values.

  1. Select a connected database
  2. Click Find Duplicates
  3. Choose which properties to compare (title, date, email, etc.)
  4. Review duplicate groups
  5. Remove or merge duplicates

Run duplicate detection on your Notion database before enabling a new automation. This catches existing duplicates that would otherwise persist and multiply during sync.

When should you use bulk tools?

After initial sync: When you first sync a large dataset, duplicates may exist from items you manually created before enabling sync, so run the duplicate detector to clean up.

Before adding a new automation: Clean up the target database or calendar before configuring a new automation. This is especially important when setting up multiple automations on one database.

Restoring deleted items: If items were accidentally deleted, use the bulk editor to find and restore them before they pass the recovery window.

Regular maintenance: Run duplicate detection periodically, especially on databases shared by multiple automations or team members.

After changing filters: If you change filters on an existing automation, previously excluded items may have created duplicates. Run duplicate detection to clean up.

What are the best practices?

  • Always review selections before bulk deleting: There is no undo for permanent deletions. Check the list carefully before confirming.
  • Run duplicate detection before enabling a new automation on an existing database. Cleaning up first prevents duplicates from compounding during sync.
  • Use the Notion Bulk Editor to clean up archived pages that clutter your database. Archived pages are easy to miss in normal views.
  • Act quickly on Google restorations: Google's recovery window is limited (typically 30 days). Events and contacts past this window are permanently gone.
  • Back up important data before performing large-scale bulk operations. Export your Notion database or Google data first.
  • Check activity logs after using bulk tools on synced data. Deletions and restorations trigger sync events that appear in the logs.
  • Understand delete behavior before bulk-deleting synced items. Deleting items managed by an active automation may trigger cascading deletions in the connected app.

What should I do next?

  1. Access bulk tools at app.2sync.com/tools/
  2. Understand delete behavior for synced items
  3. Learn how multiple automations create duplicates
  4. Review activity logs after bulk operations
  5. Set up filters to prevent future duplicates

FAQ

Are bulk tools included in all plans?

Yes. All 2sync plans include access to bulk editing tools for Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Notion at no extra cost.

Can bulk tools affect my synced automations?

Yes. If you delete items that are actively synced, the automation will detect the deletion on the next cycle and respond based on your delete behavior settings.

Is there a limit to how many items I can process at once?

There is no strict limit, but very large batches may take longer to process. The tool handles the operation in the background and notifies you when complete.

Do bulk tools work with Outlook?

Currently, bulk editing tools are available for Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Notion. Outlook bulk editing is not yet supported.

Can I undo a bulk deletion?

For Google Calendar and Contacts, deleted items can be recovered within Google's retention period (typically 30 days). For Notion, archived pages can be restored. Permanently deleted items cannot be recovered.

Should I pause automations before using bulk tools?

It's recommended. Pausing automations prevents the sync from reacting to bulk changes mid-operation. Resume automations after the bulk operation completes and you've verified the results.

How does duplicate detection work?

The tool compares items by matching titles, dates, times, email addresses, or other properties you select. Items with identical values across the compared fields are grouped as potential duplicates for your review.

Can I use bulk tools on databases not connected to 2sync?

No. The Notion Bulk Editor requires the database to be connected to your 2sync account. Google tools require an authenticated Google connection.

Can I restore deleted data?

No. 2sync does not store copies of your data, so deleted items cannot be recovered. To prevent accidental loss, turn off event deletion in Sync Settings and check that no deletion triggers are active in your Field Mapping.
