Google Sheets columns that sync to Notion
How each Google Sheets column type maps to a Notion property: text, numbers, dates and time zones, checkboxes, dropdown lists, multi-select values, and read-only formula columns
Google Sheets has no fixed field list. Every column of the tab you sync becomes a field, named after its header, and 2sync suggests a Notion property type from the column's formatting. Text, numbers, dates, checkboxes, and dropdown lists all map to the matching Notion type, and formula columns sync one way into Notion. You control each column's direction in field mapping.
For the setup walkthrough, see the Google Sheets sync guide.
Column types and Notion properties
| Column in the sheet | Suggested Notion property | Other properties you can pick | Sync direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain text | Text | Title, Select, Multi-select, URL, Email, Phone | Two-way |
| Number format | Number | Text | Two-way |
| Date format | Date | Text | Two-way |
| Date time format | Date (with time) | Text | Two-way |
| Checkbox | Checkbox | Text | Two-way |
| Dropdown list | Select | Status, Multi-select, Text | Two-way |
| Formula | As inferred from the results | As inferred | To Notion |
Two more fields appear in every automation: Sync Status and Automation Name go to Notion and are never written into the sheet. Trigger deletion on Google Sheets goes to the sheet and deletes the row when the mapped checkbox is checked.
Every column can also be mapped to a Text property. Pick Text when the suggested type is wrong, for example a number column that holds order codes.
How does 2sync decide a column's type?
2sync looks at the column in this order:
- A data validation rule on the column (a dropdown list, a checkbox, a date rule)
- The number format you applied (Format > Number)
- The values in the first rows of the tab
A column with no format and mixed values is treated as text. Change the type in field mapping if the guess is wrong, then click Refresh tabs whenever you reformat a column so the suggestion updates.
Text columns
A plain text column maps to a Text property by default. It can also map to:
- Title: one column has to map to the Notion title. The first text column is proposed; a row with an empty title is skipped until you fill it in
- Select: the cell text becomes the option name. An option that does not exist yet is created in Notion
- Multi-select: values in the cell separated by a comma and a space become one option each (see below)
- URL, Email, Phone: the cell text is stored as is
Line breaks inside a cell are kept in the Notion text.
Multiple values in one cell
Map a text column to a Multi-select and 2sync splits the cell on , (comma, space). The cell alpha, beta becomes the options alpha and beta. To keep a comma inside an option, escape it with a backslash: red, green\, blue becomes the options red and green, blue.
The same rule applies in the other direction: Notion options are written into the cell separated by , , with commas inside an option escaped.
Number columns
A column formatted as a number, currency, or percent maps to a Number property. The raw value syncs, not the formatted text: a cell showing $1,200.00 reaches Notion as 1200, and a Notion number is written into the cell as a plain number that keeps the column's format.
Dates and time zones
A column formatted as a date maps to a Notion date without a time. A column formatted as date time maps to a Notion date with a time.
Times are converted using the time zone of the spreadsheet, set under File > Settings in Google Sheets. A cell showing 14:30 in a spreadsheet set to Paris time reaches Notion as 14:30 Paris time, whatever your Notion or 2sync time zone is.
A text cell that contains a date, such as 2026-10-01 typed into an unformatted column, is text, not a date. Format the column as a date (Format > Number > Date) before mapping it to a Notion date property.
A sheet cell holds one date. Use single dates in Notion rather than ranges for columns that sync to the sheet.
Checkboxes
A column with checkboxes (Insert > Checkbox) maps to a Checkbox property. Ticking the box in either app ticks it in the other. 2sync writes a real checkbox value into the cell, not the text TRUE.
Dropdown lists
A column with a dropdown list (Data > Data validation, Dropdown) maps to a Select property, and the list's options are offered when you map values. Pick an option in Notion that is not in the list yet and 2sync adds it to the dropdown, so the list and the Notion options stay aligned.
A dropdown column can also map to a Status property or, for cells holding several values, to a Multi-select.
Formula columns
A column that contains formulas syncs one way, to Notion. 2sync reads the calculated results and never writes into the column, so the formulas keep running in the sheet. The suggested property type follows the results: a =M2*N2 column maps to a Number, an =UPPER(A2) column to Text.
Editing the mapped property in Notion has no lasting effect: the next sync writes the formula result back. Change the inputs instead, in the sheet or in Notion, and the result follows.
Values typed in Notion that start with = or + are written into the sheet as plain text, never as a formula. A Notion page cannot inject a formula into your spreadsheet.
Managed columns
2sync adds two columns of its own to the tab:
- 2sync ID, hidden and protected, holds the ID that links each row to its Notion page. Never edit or delete it
- Notion Link, visible and protected, appears when Include Notion link is on in the sync settings and holds each page's URL
Neither shows up in field mapping. See the Google Sheets sync guide for what happens when the ID column is touched.
What should I do next?
- Set up the Google Sheets sync if you have not connected yet
- Configure sync direction per column
- Set default values for Notion-only properties

FAQ
Can I add a new column after the sync is running?
Yes. Add the column with a header, click Refresh tabs in the connection panel, and map it with + Add Field. Existing rows get the new value on the next sync.
Why is my date column suggested as text?
The column has no date format. Select it in Google Sheets, apply Format > Number > Date or Date time, click Refresh tabs, and the suggestion changes to Date.
Can a text column map to a Notion date?
Not directly. Format the column as a date first. An ISO date typed into an unformatted cell is read as text.
How do I sync a comma-separated cell to a multi-select?
Map the column to a Multi-select property. 2sync splits the cell on comma and space. Escape a comma that belongs inside an option with a backslash.
Can I write into a formula column from Notion?
No. Formula columns are read-only on the sheet side and always sync to Notion. Edit the cells the formula depends on instead.
Do people, files, or relation properties sync?
Not from a Google Sheets column. Text columns map to text, title, select, multi-select, URL, email, and phone properties. Keep people, files, and relations as Notion-only properties, and use default values to fill them on new pages.
What happens to a value that is not in the dropdown list?
Type it into the cell anyway and it reaches Notion as a new select option. Pick it in Notion and 2sync adds it to the dropdown list in the sheet.
